The government wants to change the energy policy goal of 100% renewable electricity production in Sweden by 2040. Instead, it wants the wording to be 100 per cent "fossil-free", which means that nuclear power can also be included.
"There are not so many other alternative power sources that are emission-free and that deliver a lot of electricity in addition to nuclear power", says Ebba Busch, Minister of Energy and Industry (Christian Democratic Party)
The proposal will be submitted to the Riksdag in a proposal during the spring.
"Then there is an opportunity for more parties in the Swedish parliament to show their colours on this issue as well," continues Busch.
As a result, all relevant regulatory frameworks and instructions to authorities also need to be updated with the new wording.
