Seven out of ten people who have shown signs of gambling problems reduce their gaming after Svenska Spel has contacted them. This shows new results that the company is now presenting.

Thousands of Swedes have some kind of gambling problems and according to the Swedish Public Health Agency, these are four percent of the population. As part of the preventive work to prevent gambling addiction, Svenska Spel contacts all customers who show signs of risky gambling. In Svenska Spel's case, it is 1.5 percent of customers, but exactly how many people the company does not want to disclose.

Seven out of ten people who have been contacted as a result of showing signs of risky gambling reduced their gambling. On average, they have reduced their deposits by 49.8 percent. 9.5 percent took game breaks that were shorter than six months while 3.4 percent took game breaks that were longer than six months.

However, Svenska Spel is not the only gaming company that will now begin to present key figures. It is a joint initiative with ATG and Kindred Group.

"This is the first time that the industry has presented key figures. Now we want to be able to inspire other gaming companies to join and share key figures. It's about increasing transparency and credibility for the gaming industry", says Kajsa Nylander.

Risky Gambling

How much you play, how big the deposit is, what form and age are some of the factors included in Svenska Spel's risk model when deciding which customers show signs of risky gaming and which they in turn contact.

"A risky gaming can be about playing more or longer than you thought. It can also be about escalating gaming behavior, making many deposits per day or starting to play a lot at night", says Kajsa Nylander.

80 percent of those contacted by Svenska Spel are in favor of the call.

"It's almost always a positive contact and it becomes a reflective conversation. But many are also aware of their gambling."

Kajsa Nylander says that when you know what the customer needs, it is also easier to set personal limits.

"The fact that we contact our customers is not about us being a touch stick, it's just out of concern."

Prevention

For Svenska Spel, preventive work against gambling addiction is important. There are several different initiatives that they make to reduce the risk that their customers end up in a gambling addiction.

"We contact those who show signs of risky gaming but we also contact many more customers for a preventive purpose."

When you register as a customer at Svenska Spel, you must also choose a limit for how much you can play for a month. If that limit is higher than SEK 10,000, Svenska Spel will conduct an income review.

"It's so that you can't play over your assets. For us it's important to work proactively. It's important what we do and that what we do actually has an effect. We want to be able to keep our customers", says Kajsa Nylander.
