At a raid in central Eskilstuna on August 20, 2022, the police arrested five people who were in the process of conducting an arms deal. Two guns, silencers and ammunition were seized.

Later that day, a sixth person was arrested trying to hide four more guns, large amounts of ammunition, silencers, and other accessories in a forest section outside the city.

Since then, even more weapons have been seized, as evidenced by a press release from the Prosecutor's Office, which announced on Tuesday that charges were brought at Eskilstuna District Court against seven persons.

The seven men who are prosecuted years based in Eskilstuna, Örebro and Stockholm respectively. They are suspected of extremely serious gun crime and serious gun crime.

"It is very gratifying that we have managed to overcome a relatively large number of weapons that we estimate were intended to be used in the criminal environment in Eskilstuna and Örebro, which has recently been severely affected by gun violence," says Prosecutor Nicklas Hjertonsson in the press release.

One of the defendants, a man in his 20s, is charged with holding and selling at least fourteen firearms in 2022. According to Hjertonsson, there are "clear indications" that one of the seized weapons was used in an attempted murder in Örebro in March 2022.
