The EU Innovation Fund supports the Swedish project to produce synthetic sustainable aviation fuel with EUR 80 million, equivalent to nearly SEK 900 million.

The parties involved in the project are Vattenfall, Shell, Lanzatech and SAS as potential fuel users.

The so-called electrofuel is produced with fossil-free electricity and in this case captured carbon dioxide from district heat production, according to Vattenfall.

The plant is supposed to be close to Forsmark and, at full production, be able to produce at least 25 percent of SAS's need for sustainable aviation fuel by 2030.

A possible investment decision will come later.
