South Korea's captain and star Son Heung-Min, 30, was long unsure whether he would come to the World Cup in Qatar at all when he contracted a fracture in the left eye socket just before the championship.

An operation later led the Tottenham star out his national team in the World Cup premiere against Uruguay.

South Korea had a few half chances, where Son Heung-Min had a shot close outside in the final minutes. Shortly before, Uruguay's Federico Valverde fired a projectile in the crossbar, but the ball didn't want to enter then either.

Uruguay captain Diego GodΓn also failed to hit the post from a corner at the end of the first half.

The result was a draw and one point for each nation.

"It was a great match from our side. We were the better team in the first half and had many chances. In the second half we were not the best but they have good players. We also did it well in the defensive and released very few scoring opportunities", says South Korea's the national team captain Paulo Bento according to AFP.

South Korea's captain agrees with his the national team captain.

"It was a really tough game, both teams had chances. I think both teams are happy with the point, but we should have been cold and taken our chances", says Son Heung-Min according to APA.

Uruguay's the national team captain, Diego Alonso, says that was a physical and good game.

"The first 20 minutes we had problems. We did not get the ball. But then we adapted and dominated the second half", says Alonso.

The other nations in the group are Ghana and Portugal.
